Already 1,500 runners from different parts of the world have registered for the marathon. This is double the number than in previous years. The event co-ordinators said speaking to newspapers.

New world record to be set on January 16. Led by Haile Gebrselassie, some of the best runners around the world will be flying into Dubai.

The ‘Championchip‘ Electronic Timing System
Unique, simple and professional, the ‘Championchip‘ system is used in running events all around the world. With proven superior performance, it provides net and split times for every individual participant, quickly and acurately.

The ChampionChip System operates with send and receive antennas cast in thin tartan mats. The mats are placed at the Start and Finish points to register net times, they can also be placed at different points on the course to register split times. Each time an athlete wearing a ChampionChip crosses over the mat, the chip sends out an ID-number which is read by the antennas in the mat and sent to the controller. The controller sends the ID-number and corresponding time to the timing computer for processing.

Extensive parking facilities are available at Dubai Media City, Dubai Internet City and the Knowledge Village area.
