Le Meridien Al Aqah to highlight its extensive environmental initiatives at ATM 2009

Fujairah, April 16th, 2009 Le Meridien Al Aqah will highlight its extensive environmental initiatives at Arabian Travel Market (ATM) 2009, as it continues to capture the lucrative East Coast tourism share.

Following on from the resort’s programme of planting 100 new coconut palms along its shoreline in 2008, this year will see activities implemented by resort staff and the local community, including recycling awareness with local schools in May, a clean-up of Khor Fakkan Beach in June, an environmental symposium at the resort’s conference centre in July, tree planting on the grounds of the resort in August, and an awareness programme about Red Tide, focusing on the need to protect coral reefs, in September.

“During these difficult economic times, we believe it is important to invest in the community and to focus on how we can continue to improve the resort’s operations, particularly from an environmental perspective,” said Patrick Antaki, General Manager, Le Meridien Al Aqah.

In addition to beautifying the resort, the environmental awareness drive will see cost savings in energy. To date, the resort has cut utilities consumption by 1,793,499 KW (electricity), 6,137,000 gallons (water) and 85,154 litres (gas).

“The effect is far-reaching, in terms of reducing the resort’s carbon footprint and also reducing the energy bill. We are redirecting these funds to improve key areas of the resort, such as the children’s facility, the Penguin Club,” added Antaki.

Reducing the waste sent to landfill is also high on the environmental agenda, with the resort continuing its recycling target of about 7000kg per month, mainly of high-use items such as glass, plastic, oils and newspapers.

After the $2 million upgrade of the beachfront in 2008, the resort will keep the garden area greener by installing solar panels for the garden lights and parking.

Premier Inn Middle East Slashes 30% rates for its budget hotels

Premier Inn Middle East, a joint venture of Emirates and UK-based holding company Whitbread, has reduced the daily room rates to AED350 (US $95.3) from AED495 ($134.8) until the end of September, in response to a slow tourism in the emirate specially after DSF.

The company has sites under construction at Dubai International Airport and Dubai Silicon Oasis, where the second Dubai property will open in early May this year and where the rate will also be AED350. Construction will start on two sites in Abu Dhabi shortly, the company said.

Premier Inn is one of the UK’s biggest hotel brand with over 580 hotels and almost 40,000 rooms across the UK and in Ireland. It is owned by hotel and restaurant company Whitbread, which also owns Starbucks coffee rival Costa Coffee.

To buy Kindle click the link below it is shipped directly to Dubai and other cities of UAE from Amazon

Book takes you away from your surrounding so does the kindle
The most elegant feature of a physical book is that when you read you start to forget the books texture environment and the shape of book rather you are Immersed in the author’s world and ideas. Amazon Kindle design objective is to make The Kindle disappear — just like a physical book — so you can get lost in your reading, not the technology or the tool your are reading on.

Paper-Like Screen with 50% Improved Contrast

Kindle uses Amazon’s all new, high-contrast E Ink screen with 50% better contrast, for the clearest text and sharpest images. With our new display, text “pops” from the page, creating a reading experience most similar to reading on printed paper. The words on Kindle are Sharp and natural with no glare or backlight, reading on Kindle is nothing like reading on a computer screen. Those who see it for the first time always do a double-take.

Read in Sunlight with No Glare

Kindle’s screen reflects light like ordinary paper and uses no backlighting, eliminating the glare associated with other electronic displays. As a result, Kindle can be read any where on the beach in the sun, in drawing room or in the train or jungle while you are travelling.

Adjustable Text Size

This is some thing a book can not offer unless you have a magnifying glass, Kindle has eight adjustable text sizes to enlarge or reduce text size while you are reading. You can increase the text size of your favorite ebook or periodical with the push of a button. If your eyes tire, simply increase the font size and continue reading comfortably. Now every ebook in your library can be large print.

Choices of font shapes and design of text

Kindle now has three font styles to choose from – our standard Caecilia font, a condensed version of Caecilia, and a sans serif option – so you can change your font style along with the font size.

Screen Rotation

Manually rotate the Kindle’s display from portrait to landscape to view maps, graphs, tables and Web pages.

Newspaper Reading

Using Kindle’s 5-way controller, you can quickly flip between articles, making it faster and easier to browse and read the morning paper. Want to remember the newspaper or magazine article you just read? Clip and save entire articles for later reading with a single click. Newspapers are auto-delivered wirelessly to Kindle before they hit newsstands.

Sharp Display of Images and Photos

Kindle’s high-resolution screen boasts 16 shades of gray and 50% improved contrast, for the sharpest text and images.

Abu Dhabi Hotel guests numbers on rise May-To-May Comparison Up 14 per cent

Abu Dhabi, June 28th, 2010 — Abu Dhabi emirate recorded a 14 per cent increase on guest numbers across its 116 licensed hotels and hotel apartments last month compared to May 2009, says Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority.
The newly released figures of the authority show that rising to 161,004, the May performance took the overall first five months of this year hotel guest total to 790,812 – a 16 per cent increase on the same period last year. The performance represents the seventh consecutive month of double-digit guest growth for the emirate.
“We are well on course to achieve our 2010 target of 1.65 million hotel guests,” said Mubarak Al Muhairi, Director General, Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority.
“We are now focussed on keeping the momentum going. We have significantly expanded our Summer in Abu Dhabi family festival to take in Abu Dhabi city and, for the first time, Al Ain to help keep the momentum going and the industry has responded well with a wealth of one-for-one visitor stay incentives. With headline shows, in-mall entertainment and deals across attractions, shops and restaurants, we are looking to also encourage the average length of stay.
“With the planned opening of Ferrari World Abu Dhabi this October and the peak Grand Prix season yet to come, target attainment is well within our reach”, he added.
Guest nights in May this year rose 12 per cent on May 2009 and for the year-to-May showed an 11 per cent increase.
“Increased room inventory on last year has made the market much more competitive and impacted occupancy and revenue levels. The upside, of course, is that the destination as a whole now sits in a much more competitive position than it was a year ago which, in the long term, will be sustainable benefits,” said Al Muhairi. Abu Dhabi currently has around 17,500 hotel/hotel apartment rooms as compared with about 12,500 in May last year.
Occupancy levels were 61 per cent this May – a 17 per cent decline on May 2009 while revenue declined 9 per cent to AED 330 million though food and beverage revenue for the first five months of the year is showing a 14 per cent increase on 2009.
Domestic tourism again held its own growing by 18 per cent year-on-year to 67,808 hotel guests. The UK was again the emirate’s biggest individual international market growing by 12 per cent month-on-month to 10,031.
The GCC again proved its value with a 32 per cent month-on-month growth with Saudi Arabia being the top performing Gulf market notching up a 44 per cent growth to 2,915 and becoming Abu Dhabi’s 10th most important hotel guest source.

Burj Al Arab Dubai celebrates its tenth birthday

BURJ_AL_ARAB1Dubai 10th November 2009 – Burj Al Arab Hotel regarded is one of the finest hotels of the world and a symbol of Dubai celebrates its first ten years in December 2009. The iconic bulding, which resembles a giant billowing sail, has become one of the most notable landmarks in the Gulf emirate. It is one of the most luxurious and most expensive hotels in the world but much more besides.

Many people call it the 7 Star hotel of Dubai, “There is a myth surrounding this hotel. We never claimed to be a seven-star establishment but we have acquired that reputation,” said Heinrich Morio, general manager of the Burj Al Arab.

Perhaps the considerable reputation of the hotel arises from 202 lavishly-appointed duplex suites or the seemingly endless 22-carat gold-plated surfaces. Adding to the upmarket impression is an unusually large staff of 1,500, whose job it is to pamper the guests. This amounts to seven employees per visitor. The prices are definitely high. Check Rates for Burj Al Arab

Such features made the hotel unique when it first opened. “We cater for the world’s most discerning guests and the level of expectation is extremely high,” said Morio who hails from Germany. Despite the global economic downturn, the Burj al Arab has not lowered its prices and is well-booked, he added.

Gaining access to this noble house of Arabian hospitality on Jumeirah Beach Road is not as straightforward as it looks and a guarded causeway prevents tourists from simply strolling through the entrance. Those without a reservation in one of the restaurants or a booked room for the night are left to gaze at the 321-metre-tall space-age structure from the outside. For illustrious guests a fleet of ten chauffeur-driven Rolls-Royce limousines is available to transport them from the city’s airport.

BURJ_AL_ARAB_restaurantThe interior of this hotel is best described as serenely sumptuous with fountains in the foyer and all manner of luxurious fittings. The hotel belongs to the Dubai Holding, most of which is owned by the ruling al Maktoum family. After around 40 years of oil wealth they decided to transform Dubai into a magnet for financiers and holidaymakers.

Before that could happen the emirate had to make a name for itself worldwide. The Burj Al Arab placed a key part in that strategy. “The owners wanted to create the most handsome, luxurious and splendid hotel the world has ever seen,” said the manager. A brief on this scale made it easier for the architects and designers to create features shared with only a handful of hotels in the world.

BURJ_AL_ARAB_ROOM1One example is the pets department where British-born Warren R Baverstock looks after the hotel’s numerous aquariums. “I came to Dubai ten years ago and as I lay on the beach and gazed at the hotel I was simply thrilled,” he recalled. Back then he quickly made up his mind to trade northern Europe for the heat of the desert.

A lot has changed in Dubai since the hotel opened in December 1999. The metropolis has continued to expand and where locals once played impromptu football games alongside the hotel, exclusive apartments and hotels have mushroomed. Yet staff at the Burj al Arab do not fear competition from spectacular new resorts such as the new Palm Island.

Dubai’s signature building no longer stands alone and in December of this year it is set to be dwarfed by the new Burj Dubai, the projected world’s tallest structure with more than 160 floors.

The new hotel has been the subject of much speculation regarding its precise height – the official word is that is stands at over 800 metres – along with the exact opening date and the scale of planned public celebrations to mark its inception. The investment costs are no secret and it is well known in Dubai that this latest superlative structure cost around a billion dollars to erect.

Dubai Hotel Occupancy Up in for DSF

DUBAI – Dubai hotels are getting a boost with occupancy rates on the rise during the 14th Dubai Shopping Festival 2009.

The DSF annual event, which has become a tourism attraction, was launched on last January 14 and will end on February 15, has been bringing in both domestic and foreign visitors according to hoteliers.

Most leading hotels said they are experiencing an increase in occupancy and reservations.

“The first week of DSF had a rather good effect, we have witnessed a 10 per cent increase in hotel occupancy raising the room occupancy up to 81 per cent,” said Anke Glaessing, executive assistant manager of Al Murooj Rotana Hotel & Suites.

Most leading hotels are offering up to 60 per cent discount for their rooms and up to 20 per cent in top-tier restaurants.  “It’s a busy season, and the great shopping promotions just made it busier in the past week. Several big conferences are coming up and occupancy will increase considerably compared to the pre-DSF period,” said Tom Meyr, regional general manager for Inter Continental Hotel Projects in Dubai Festival City.

Dubai hotels, which have in recent months been suffering from lower occupancy levels amid the slowing global economy, have successfully collaborated with the Dubai Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) to lure back business and leisure tourists, said Meyr.

Aside from hotels, restaurants and tour operators on various DSF locations are also enjoying robust sales.

“The DTCM campaign and our promotions and discounts have really stirred the tourism market.” said Hosni Abdul Hadi, manager of Carlton Towers.
