Dubai Holidaymakers yesterday complained that Dubai Mall is charging exorbitant prices for valet parking, taking advantage of the massive crowds during Eid Al Fitr.

The mall has doubled the charges for regular parking from Dh50 to Dh100. VIP parking charges have been increased from Dh100 to Dh200. A hastily changed valet parking sign at the mall shows the change.

The Dubai MallThe Dubai Mall security said that valet parking charges will return to normal today.

The mall is drawing unprecedented crowds during the long Eid holidays as it has children’s attractions, food courts and shopping outlets, including an aquarium and a children’s zoo.

But despite the increase in cost, motorists were yesterday seen giving their cars to the valets as finding a space by oneself is very difficult. A valet said the 14,000-car parking lot had filled up as early as 8pm yesterday.

During the last few days, the police were forced to set up road blocks on the bridge leading to the mall to ease the traffic congestion. Visitors from neighbouring Gulf states usually increase during the Eid holidays with tourists driving to Dubai from Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar and Oman.

The Shoppiesta, which includes international artists from the Arab world, the US and Bollywood, is drawing crowds and adding to parking problems in malls in the emirate.
