Abu Dhabi, 1st March 2009 (WAM) The Ministerial Council for Services passed today a proposal put forward by the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) for registration of .ae domains in Arabic.
The proposal is part of the TRA’s strategy to chalk out a national plan for running and managing internet in Arabic language. It falls in line with the new approach of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) to create equivalent domains in languages other than English.
The current (UAE) .ae domains are in English
The UAE domain in Arabic will contribute to increasing the number of surfers to Arabic sites and further promote and strengthen the UAE’s identity.
Presided over by H.H. Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Presidential Affairs, the Council also discussed two studies by the Marriage Fund on the contribution of the grant on covering wedding expenses and preference benchmarks in regards to applicants.
