ABU DHABI, Feb. 8th, 2009: Some 400 volunteers from private and government orgnizations joined hands on Sunday as part of a clean-up campaign organized by the Abu DHabi’s Environment Agency (EAD) to mark the 12th UAE National Environment Day.

The clean-up campaign started from the free port near the Fishermen’s Wharf. Volunteers cleared the area of marine debris and litter which otherwise would end up in the sea harming the biodiversity and affecting swimmers’, seafarers’ and fishermen’s welfare and livelihoods.

The clean-up campaign which is held under the theme “For Sustainable Development of Our Coasts” is organized by the Abu Dhabi Ports Company, Abu Dhabi Educational Zone and is support from Abu Dhabi Municipality.

Through this campaign, the community in Abu Dhabi is given the opportunity to directly contribute to environmental protection efforts and environmental awareness is promoted on the dangers of litter and marine debris on the UAE’s biodiversity
