Ministry of Heals Bans Practicing of Medical Profession in UAE without Insuring Against Medical Errors
WAM Dubai, Jan 30th, 2009: The Ministry of Health (MOH) has issued a circular to all health and pharmaceutical firms in the private sector, banning practicing of medical profession in the country without insuring against medical errors.
The circular said that every medical practitioner should insure with a recognised insurance firm against potential medical mistakes.
The circular was sent abiding by a law issued by President HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan in this regard and executive directives issued by Minister of Health HE Humaid Mohammed Obeid Al Qattami to avert negligence in implementing the regulation.
The ordinance is based on articles 25 to 27 of chapter 4 of the Federal Medical Liability Law of 2008, which stipulated the ban of practicing medicine without insuring against medical errors with a licensed insurance firm, noted Dr. Amin Bin Husain Al Amiri, executive director for medical practicing and licensing at the MOH
