UAEU, ZU, HCT students to fly to UK to join Summer Internship Program at Oxford University
Abu Dhabi, 27th June 2010 : Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC) has organized an orientation session for 12-summer internship program students who are studying Biology and Economics disciplines at United Arab Emirates University (UAEU), Zayed University (ZU) and Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT).
The orientation session, aimed at introducing students to the training program and its objectives, also provided them with the required documents for joining the internship program and travelling to the United Kingdom. The students as well as their chaperons were awarded credit cards to facilitate the spending process during their stay abroad.
Dr. Mugheer Khamis Al-Khaili, Director General of ADEC, said that the Internship Program comes in line with the goals of ADEC’s 10-year Strategic Plan aimed at developing a knowledge-based economy and improving student skills to meet the needs of the global labor market. Moreover, it will also help achieve the goals of Abu Dhabi Economic Vision 2030 which requires a highly qualified workforce.
Dr. Al-Khaili added that this Internship at Pembroke College, Oxford University aims to improve student access to educational opportunities, promote their capabilities through close interaction with different cultures and introduce students to different patterns of life that will help provide them with self-confidence, independence and the ability to adapt to new cultures and environments.
During the orientation session, students, parents and chaperons were presented with information about the 4-week study courses that will take place at Pembroke College for in accordance with Oxford University academic system and criteria as well as information about social activities and excursions. The internship program includes students with a minimum GPA of 3.0, who will be studying Biology ‘&’ Economics courses and will be residing at Pembroke College student hostels.
