Dubai: The Dubai Culture and Arts Authority (Dubai Culture) has announced the launch of Dubai Art Season, a month-long arts initiative from March 14 to April 15 to highlight the city’s growing creative landscape.
Shaikh Majid Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Culture, said: “Dubai’s extensive portfolio of arts and culture events has set a clear growth track for its creative landscape. Boasting platforms that lend momentum to each discipline of art, from visual arts and performing arts to film, the city has become an incubator for aspiring and emerging artistic talent.”
Dubai Art Season will kick off on the first day of Art Week, which features SIKKA Art Fair, Design Days Dubai, and Art Dubai. These three annual events by Dubai Culture support and showcase home-grown Emirati and Dubai-based artistic talent and provide a platform for local and international designers, budding designers and creative minds to meet. The art season will also encompass the Middle East Film and Comic Con, and will culminate with the Gulf Film Festival 2014.
“Dubai Art Season will play an integral role in underlining the cultural and artistic strengths of Dubai, especially in the run up to the World Expo 2020, where every element of the city will mark its arrival in the global spotlight,” Shaikh Majid said
The art season will integrate Dubai’s community into the burgeoning creative industry, by activating public spaces and outdoor art projects, introducing interactive initiatives, workshops, exhibitions, panel discussions and performances, among others.
It will also play an integral role in promoting the growth of its creative industries within the regional and international circuit, highlighting its role as a cultural destination in the region.
Dubai Art Season will feature a culturally rich programme that caters to audiences across the UAE. Additional details of the programme will be announced soon.
